As part of Zeehavendagen Amsterdam – the annual port event now in its fourth edition – we joined exclusive behind-the-scenes tours at the Port of Amsterdam. This year’s event was exceptionally included in the Toekomst Tiendaagse, a citywide program linked to Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary.
Rietlanden Terminals – From Coal to Change
In the morning, we visited Rietlanden Terminals, currently specialized in the handling of coal arriving from all over the world. With the energy transition in full swing, the terminal is preparing for a future beyond coal, exploring new cargo flows and sustainable solutions. The visit offered a clear perspective on the terminal’s key role and it's transition.
TMA Logistics – Circular, Multi-purpose and Future-ready
In the afternoon, our group toured TMA Logistics. This large-scale, multi-purpose terminal handles a wide variety of cargo, including breakbulk and RoRo vessels. (roll of roll on). One inspiring example: old Dutch Railways train wagons are dismantled here and the materials reused, even to the extent of becoming bicycle frames. The company is especially active in breakbulk offshore and all kind of maritime logistics, with vast storage capacity and flexible infrastructure.
With both visits, we gained valuable insight into the operations, challenges and ambitions of two crucial players in Amsterdam’s port ecosystem.
